Sintra is both a town and a municipality of Lisbon region. While most tourists will come to visit the town and its spectacular setting, the municipality is much larger. Sintra and its surrounding mountains (Serra de Sintra) are classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a popular destination for tourists and it can be easily visited while staying in Lisbon.
Visit the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, the Old Royal Palace, and Regaleira Palace. Hike in comfortable forest tracks and immerse yourself in nature once you leave the old town behind. Don’t miss the nice pastries and do some shopping in the old village.
